Visitor Record

Visitor Record

If a foreign national wishes to stay in Canada longer, he/she will need to apply for a visitor record to extend his/her stay in Canada as a visitor. A visitor record is a document issued by IRCC that continues to give a foreign national legal status as a visitor in Canada and allows the individual to stay longer. The VR however does not guarantee that the foreign national can leave and then re-enter Canada. To re-enter Canada, the foreign national will need a valid TRV or eTA.

A VR includes a new expiry date that requires the individual to leave Canada by the expiry date. A foreign national must apply for a visitor record before his/her current status expires.
